Binding Recommendation (BSA)

At the end of your first year you'll get a binding recommendation, which can be positive, negative or postponed.

To obtain a postive recommendation you will have to satisfy the following conditions:

1. Successful completion of at least 45 credits.

2. Successful completion of at least six of the following study units: Linear Structures 1, Linear Structures 2, Analysis 1, Analysis 2, Probability Theory, Signals and Transforms, Numerical Mathematics and Differential Equations.

If you do not meet the requirements at the end of your first year, you will obtain a negative recommendation, so you will have to leave the study programme. However, there is a possibility to apply for a postponed recommendation, which will be dealt with personally and is different for each student.

Bachelor-before-Master Rule

From the 1st of September 2012, as in the rest of the Netherlands, the University of Twente applies the Bachelor-before-Master Rule. This measure implies, that one can only begin with a masters programme after the succesful completion of the bachelor. Because of this measure it is no longer possible, to begin with a masters, as a bachelor student with 150 EC or over. In return it is now possible to start with your master at two moments, either in February or in September.

Pass/Fail Regulations

You passed your bachelor if:

  • all study units have been completed with at most one 5.0 in the first year and one in the second or third year, and no lower grades;
  • the grade for the Bachelor's Assignement is 6.0 or higher;
  • the average of all grades is 6.0 or higher;
  • due to the transition to TEM 2.0, transistion rules may apply.

You passed your master if:

  • no grade on your gradelist is below 5.5;
  • traineeship and final project (possibly combined) are separately completed with at least a six.

Pre-requirements

Pre-requirements are in place for the final year of the bachelor.

One can only start with a minor, if they already acquired 75 EC.

TEM 2.0

With the introduction of TEM 2.0, modules are no longer offered as 15 EC study units. A module now consists of several study units, each of which can be passed individually. Therefore, there are no longer clusters in which compensation can be used. For students from cohort 2013-2019, transitional arrangements can be found in the EER.
