Hello everyone,

Now that you are on this page you probably want to know who I am. Let me tell you. I am Ruben de Baaij, born in Ulft on the 16th of June 1996. In the year 2017-2018 I was part of the 50th board of W.S.G. Abacus.

How did I end up here? Let's begin at 'Berend Botje', my day care in Ulft, where I fell with my head against a fence of which I still have a visible scar.  Maybe it was that accident which sparked my interest for mathematics. 

Not long after I moved to the town Doetinchem where I went to primary and high school.  Apparently I did not care much for my teachers at school and escaped to walk home. I also fell out of bed during that time and fell with my head on my night stand.  Maybe it was that accident which sparked my interest for mathematics. 

In contrary to many people here I finished the HAVO at high school and was mathematics not my best or favorite subject. I also fell down the stairs once, maybe it was that accident which sparked my interest for mathematics. 

After high school I started the study Logistics & Economics at the HAN in Arnhem but quickly I realised that was not the right choice for me. I went looking for a study which I could start right after I was done with my first year at the HAN. Maybe going to university was something for me so I went looking in Twente.  There mathematics became clear to be the correct choice for me although I never thought myself to be studying math. After some extra math during my year in Arnhem I started with Applied Mathematics in Enschede.

When I started living in a student dorm with house number 50 my board year was determined by fate.
