Dear all,
In front of the Abacus room, under the coat rack, the lost and found is located. This lost and found is extremely full with stuff that has been there for a long time. We will be cleaning this. Anything that is still on, under or near the coat rack on September 16th will be removed. Make sure to take your stuff and check whether there is anything that might be yours!
Flowers Education committee Friday 8 September 2023 12:12
In quartile 4, the Education committee gave a bouquet to Philip Lederer! Philip took over the master course Finite Element Method (FEM), halfway through the semester. Previously there were a lot of complaints about the course, but Philip explained the subject from scratch and got every student up-to-date. The final projects were somewhat elaborate and difficult for the students, but Philip made time to meet with each project group face-to-face and helped them to finish their projects. In the end, the students felt that they actually understood the method, and were happy that they got to apply it to interesting real-life applications. Once again, thank you Philip, for your time and for your effort!

AMEP Winner Tuesday 25 April 2023 11:01
Every year, the Education committee organises the Applied Mathematics Education Prize (AMEP). All students can nominate teachers to give a short talk. Three teachers are then chosen and then the winner will be decided by a vote. A few weeks ago his year, Matthias Walter has won, after a close vote with other teachers Hil Meijer and Clara Stegehuis. They all gave a talk on the topic “Mathematics of Everyday Life”.
Last year, Nelly Litvak won, who went on to win the UTEA. This year Matthias might participate, and we are rooting for you! Congratulations Matthias Walter on winning the AMEP 2023!

Last wednesday our MaRCo collaborated with MaPhS for a succesful activity for bachelor/master AM students and PhD students alike. We had some nice presentations on Git by Tjeerd-Jan Heeringa and Elina Thibeau-Sutre and a talk on Large Language Models by Len Spek. We really enjoyed having the PhD students in our drinking room and we hope we can collaborate more in the future!

After getting recommended in the first quartile both online and on campus, the Education committee has decided to give Hans Zwart a bouquet of flowers. Last quartile, Hans gave the course Analysis II. Throughout this course he always made an effort to be involved with the students and their progress, he was also praised for being very amiable. This made the course a much more pleasant experience for second-year students. Therefore, the Education committee thinks that Hans has definitely earned this Bouquet.
