David van der Linden

My name is David van der Linden. I completed my Master’s in Mathematics (specializing in Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming) in June 2024, and I’m now a Product Engineer at BetterBe. In this role, I get to experience what software engineering is in practice. What I enjoy most are the interactions with my team. Every day brings lively discussions with teammates who share a deep foundation in theoretical computer science.

At BetterBe, we break projects down into well-defined tasks in our ticketing system. Every task you complete is then reviewed by at least one other developer before it’s merged; this peer-review process gives you concrete feedback on your design and code, helping you continuously improve and learn best practices.

BetterBe is a company that produces software specialized for the car leasing industry. BetterBe is used by major OEMs and automotive leasing firms across 20+ countries.

BetterBe has around 70 employees and is now in its scale-up phase, making the company ready for future growth, adding a light hierarchy to the informal atmosphere. Many of BetterBe’s engineers have a PhD from the UT in theoretical computer science. BetterBe’s product is a highly customizable search engine for lease pricing calculations, car configuring, and more. Leasing companies provide their own scripts and see real-time price calculations powered by algorithms designed for speed and accuracy.
